Mumpreneurs with a difference

This week I wanted to put the spotlight on three very special mums who are helping others with their unique brands and creating amazing products that are organic, holistic and most of all Australian! What makes them so unique? These mums understand the complexities of today's world and aim to bring together families, assist working mums with work flexibility with their babies and demonstrate that you can build a fantastic business and not compromise their kids and families.

I personally have bought quite a few products from all the mums I mention in this blog because I honestly love their products and I think everyone should know about it! 😊

These 3 mumpreneurs took the time to tell me about their brands and how they began their businesses creating their products, juggling mum life and teaching their kids important life lessons.

Star Essentials skincare

Blare Sethi is a Brisbane mum creator of Star Essentials natural skincare range and products. Her focus is on providing high quality natural products whilst using environmentally sustainable practices at affordable prices. Blare also offers reiki and crystal healing treatments.

I personally have gotten obsessed with Blare’s products and have her facial oil serum, healing balm, lip balm, bug repellent and salve. I love them all! They use beautiful organic ingredients and oils that are soothing and feel amazing on the skin.

Blare began experimenting with making her own products when she was pregnant with her first child and noticed how many synthetics and toxins were in traditional products – even baby products! She knew a change was needed!

This super mum has made her business work around her kids and family life (as most mums do!) and works weekends from home and at night.

When I asked her what was one thing she wanted her kids to learn from her she said so beautifully:

“There are many things I would love my children to learn from me starting my own business- I would love my kids to be able to see that they can make a difference in the world. No matter how small they think it may be, the choices they make in regards to the environment, can have a large impact. “ - star essentials by blare

ard family

Yard family are beautiful organic cotton rugs created by sisters and mums Emily and Alice from the Gold Coast.  Their goal was to have a creative outlet for their combined skills and ideas but also wanted a business they could fit in with their family and kids. I love that their inspiration was being raised in a family where they had little television and so were encouraged to use their imaginations and get outside and have adventures. These are qualities they try to instill with their own children and believe in getting back to basics of good, old-fashioned outdoor fun.

This really resonates with me as I really believe in lots of physical activity for kids and spending time together outside enjoying the outdoors.

This is a rug brand that I personally just keep going back to, I own two rugs of theirs and I love the quality, the thickness and the patterns, they look great as a decorative rug and are hardy enough to withstand being outside in the elements.

I asked Yard family what is the biggest lesson they want their kids to learn from them:

“doing unto others as you would have them do unto you” which is a Bible quote but also a life principle we should all live by. We would want our kids to put themselves into a customer’s shoes – how would they as a customer want to feel when they opened a package, looked at their purchase, used their purchase? If they had a complaint or problem come up, how would they want the business to treat them and handle their issue?” - yard family

Indeed I think these are good life lessons on how to deal with others and how to problem solve!

Bubnest

When I first had Olivier I have to admit I struggled! I didn’t know how to put him to nap, I didn’t know how to read his tired signs and I also was getting very tired holding him all day long and waking up all night…I needed help! In my sleep deprived state I somehow came across bubnest. Bubnests are beautiful organic cotton nests made specially for newborns and babies to sleep snug and comfortable. They are amazing to take around when out and about, travelling, exercising, where ever you are, you can take Bubnest with you and know you have a good soft travel nest everywhere you go. I ended up buying two Bubnests for Olivier as I loved their fabrics and patterns and the nests come in different sizes so as Olivier grew I could still use it,

I asked Astrid creator of Bubnest how she came about this product:

“I am from Sweden and had never heard the word “bub” before but once I fell pregnant this word was the highest ranking most-heard-word for a long time. My friends in Sweden who hadn’t heard of “bub” either called us Boob-nest before they got it. The name Bubnest just came to me and it felt right straight away.

The nests are all handmade in Australia as one of my drivers is to provide flexible working opportunities for local women. I think Australia has a long way to go when it comes to equality. Day care is expensive which often results in one parent staying at home with kids, more often than not this is the woman. This puts her in an unfavourable position when and if she wants to go back to work later, which I don’t think is right nor healthy for the individual, the relationship or the society" - Bubnest

I love that Bubnest is helping to create flexibility with mums and flexible working opportunities for local women! Bubnest has had it’s share of challenges and juggling family life is not easy as well but Bubnest is such a passion for this mum that it comes naturally and is fun!

When I asked  Astrid what lessons she wants her kids to learn from her, she said:

“Follow your heart, work hard and never give up. I am not sure how to actually teach this to my kids as whatever I say seem to go in one ear and out the other. Hopefully some of the words stick somewhere in their little heads. At least I try to lead by example.”
