Should we switch to natural deodorants?

BO, yes body odour. There is no worse situation than finding yourself with BO and no deodorant, it’s happened to me before actually. I  was at a nice event, forgot my deodorant, I started to sweat a bit as it was a crowded room and before you know it I was having a conversation with someone while in the back of my mind thinking “geez I hope they can’t smell my BO”

So I get it, BO is real and a good deodorant is a must!

You walk into woollies and there are a thousand options: roll-on, spray, can, paste – what works best? What do I choose and I should I choose the “natural” ones? What’s wrong with widely used commercial deodorants?

According to Dr Mercola, americans spend $18 billion a year on deodorant and antiperspirant deodorant. The concerns with a lot of people now are the harmful effects of parabens, aluminium and other toxic and endocrine disrupting effects that most deodorants have on human health. I did a pubmed and Ebscohost search on deodorants and breast cancer as well as endocrine effects and interestingly the  breast cancer hypothesis is inconclusive but study done in 2014 on the estrogenic activity of underarm constitutuents in deodorants found that there were substnatial estrogenic effects from fragrances and preservatives used in deodorants, similar to parabens. Another study indicated that the effects of aluminium salts in deodorants remains unknown and needs further study into the role of increased risk of breast cancer.

To me, it does matter and I prefer to use natural deodorants that don’t have parabens, perfumes and aluminium BUT they don’t work….and I’ve tried a lot!

Until now…

I decided to try out and interview the creator of No Pong Deodorant. A natural and organic deodorant paste that does what it says…it eliminates the pong…and yes it does work!

No Pong uses all natural ingredients, that are extremely effective at reducing smelly armpit bacteria, along with  coconut oil and beeswax to keep it there all day, as well as ingredients designed to absorb sweat while allowing your skin to breathe, rather than simply blocking pores using aluminium salts, as traditional anti-perspirant products are designed to d

The creator Melanie and Chris Caley created this product out of a surfing trip in the hot and sweaty tropics. As chris explains:

“Melanie had been working for quite a while on a deodorant, as she was very conscious of putting questionable ingredients on sensitive areas like our armpits.  I started using her deodorant on the trip, and in the absence of running water or laundry managed to wear the same shirt for 3 days and didn’t smell.  That’s when we really knew she was on to something!”

We came up with the name No Pong pretty easily.  We’re pretty straight shooters, and No Pong definitely did what it says on the tin!”

I can verify this now and so can my husband! I did a 5 hour trip to perth from Brisbane, in an afternoon and I put on No Pong in the morning and didn’t reapply at all and guess what? It worked! And it worked well!
